Synchronized intermittent mandatory ventilation combined with pressure support. Tracings of flow, tidal volume (VT) and ventilator pressure (PVent) obtained from a premature infant switched from SIMV to SIMV combined with pressure support. The tidal volume from spontaneous breaths assisted by pressure support is larger than the tidal volume from non-assisted spontaneous breaths between SIMV cycles.
